Since its the new year and because this is the year I turn 50 (eek) I want to elevate my life and feel better on all levels. My body had been feeling super tight from all my workouts so I decided to give yoga a real try. Now mind you, I have never loved yoga, in fact I can honestly say I didn’t like yoga but every now and then I would do it because I knew it was “supposed” to be good for me and I did feel better after but I wasn’t consistent with it. I couldn’t get into moving slow and all the breath work. I would literally skip the yoga in my workout programs because I didn’t like doing it.
So, I committed to doing the 3 Week Yoga Retreat on Beachbody on Demand. I figured I would start with this beginner course and learn it properly and go from there. I never really learned the basics and I knew of the health benefits of yoga so this was a perfect place to start. I added this along with my normal workout schedule and usually do it at night.
What this program offers is a no nonsense approach to yoga. The instructors are great, have amazing energy and are super easy to understand. They walk you through each pose, tell you how to breathe and why correct form matters. Each workout is only 30 minutes long and each week is a new phase of the program- leading into harder poses.
By the second week I found myself looking forward to my nightly yoga sessions. This is a first for me! I also noticed another change happening that wasn’t expected which is how incredibly grounded and centered I was feeling. I felt lighter and more calm. Things didn’t bother me as much, I just felt peaceful and my body didn’t feel so tight anymore. I didn’t realize it was the yoga until one of my coworkers who teaches it said something about how yoga can do that and that is when I realized OMG yoga has these amazing side effects I wasn’t even aware of because I never did it long enough to experience it. I wasn’t expecting this awesome side effect from practicing yoga but I will take it! It has given me more reason to continue my yoga practice and I plan on doing the all the yoga classes in the yoga studio on Beachbody on Demand and see where it all takes me!
